The Mission of the Business Office is to administer the salaries and benefits to all district staff: provide for a safe environment through effective risk management; communicate with administrators and the board of education as to the District’s financial status: showing favorably to the community that we are fiscally responsible for our actions and using tax payer dollars in a effective way; assist department leaders in implementing/creating programs that will prove to be beneficially long-term; and record all financial transactions providing for the purchase of goods and services allowing for an effective way for children to learn.
My name is Patty Merlin and I am the Human Resource and Payroll Coordinator for the Hartland/Lakeside School District since 1996. Some of my major responsibilities include maintaining employee personnel files along with coordinating all employee benefits. I also handle all payroll reporting to the State & Federal governmental agencies. Before my employment with the Hartland/Lakeside School District, I worked for the Kmart Corporation for 16 years as a Human Resource Manager. I have been married to my husband, Dennis, for 35 years and we have one wonderful son, Taylor. Taylor currently attends WCTC studying Network Administration. My current pride and joy is my 1 ½ year West Highland Terrier named Gracie.
My name is Chris Oestreich & I started working for HLSD in 2010 as A/P Coordinator. Along with accounts payable and purchase order responsibilities, I am the Community Events Coordinator where I help set up the Village of Hartland Hometown Celebration Parade in July each year with the Village. I have had the privilege to be married for 17 years to my amazing husband Joel and we have 2 wonderful daughters that attend Hartland South & North Shore.
I am responsible for the business and finance functions of the District including budget, payroll, accounting, accounts payable, purchasing, investments, and debt management.
I came to Hartland-Lakeside in 2011 and serves as the Business Manager. Prior to joining HLSD, I was the Assistant Director of Business Service at the Waukesha School District. My commitment is to bring efficiency and transparency, strong internal controls, accurate financial reporting and clearly communicating complex financial information resulting in a greater understanding among the school board and the community.
I am a lifelong resident of Wisconsin and a 2012 graduate of UW-Milwaukee with a MBA in School Business Administration. In addition to my love for shopping and passion for decorating, I enjoy spending quality time with my husband and family.
My name is Denise Wallace and I am the District Accountant. I have been with the Hartland/Lakeside School District for 2 years. I am responsible for auditing the district’s bank accounts, bank reconciliations, student activity funds, cash receipts and journal entries. I also manage grant budgets, do Medicaid reporting, Special Education tuition billing and some DPI reporting.
Before coming to Hartland/Lakeside School District, I was the Director of Finance for the Merton Community School District for 14 years, from which I retired after the 2011/12 school year.
