Biography

What I love about teaching is that things change on a daily basis. I love the moments when students get it!

I knew from the age of 7 that I was going to be a teacher and spent the summers playing school. I received my teaching degree from Carroll College and my Masters from UW LaCrosse. I spent 15 years as a substitute teacher while raising my children. I was active as a youth choir director(17 years), Girl Scout Leader(20 years) and a Youth Lay Minister (15 years). I have been an educator in the district since 1997 teaching kindergarten, second grade and now 5th grade. I continue to take classes and am a lifelong learner. I am a certified teacher mentor, a digital classroom teacher and a member of the district Social Justice Team.

My goal for all of my students is to help them to be respectful of others, enjoy learning , advocate for their learning style, connect globally to learn with others, and prepare themselves educationally and socially for middle school and the years beyond.

Biography

I graduated from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin with a degree in cross-categorical special education and regular education. This is my fourth year teaching in the Hartland-Lakeside school district. The last three years I have been teaching at Hartland North in second grade and Hartland Fine Arts Leadership Academy. I love working with all kinds of learners and collaborating with teachers to create the best learning environment for every student.

I grew up right down the road in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and it is great to still be in the area to spend time with my family. I am a huge Wisconsin sports fan- Badgers, Packers, and Brewers. In the fall you will find me most Saturdays at Camp Randall watching the Badgers and in the summer I like to get to as many Brewers games as possible. I love traveling and have been to Australia, Israel, and Japan, as well as various states with family and friends. I have a big heart for animals and if I wasn’t a teacher I would have wanted to become a veterinarian. I have a big, black, fluffy cat named Sirius Black at my house!

Biography

What I love about teaching comm. arts is the infinite variety of student stories I get to read and the opportunity to talk with students to get them excited about reading.

I started teaching in the Hartland/Lakeside District in 1988, and I plan to be here for many years to come! My four children keep me and my wife quite busy at home.

My classroom is all about reading and writing. My classroom library of over 700 books is always open to students throughout the year. I expect every student to develop a schedule for reading outside my classroom and to report to me on their reading habits each week. We also have reading/writing partners in class to help students learn how to collaborate on writing and reading projects. The focus is for every student to grow as a writer and reader regardless of ability level.

3rd Grade Hartland South Elementary Work Phone: (262) 369-6720
Biography

I have been working in the Hartland-Lakeside School District since 1999. I have taught second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education for grades one through nine. I also have earned a Masters of Arts in Education from Viterbo University.

As a parent, I know that you are your child’s first teacher. Together we will work to make their academic experience as positive and successful as it can be. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions that you may have.

What I love about teaching is working with families and watching a child grow and mature over the school year.

My expectations are that children become active participants in their education.  Our day starts with a special.  After children return we busily get involved in writing, followed by an interactive read aloud.  Students then go to recess and lunch.  After lunch we dive into math and word work.  Students then take a quick break and we immerse ourselves into reading.  The day is capped off with social studies, science or engineering.

4th Grade Hartland South Elementary Work Phone: (262) 369-6720
Biography

Welcome to our world at Hartland South! I have been teaching in Hartland for 25 years and have had the privilege of working with hundreds of amazing, creative, and talented kids. My motto is “WEIRD IS GOOD!” I believe that we should celebrate our differences and be brave enough to always be ourselves.
I am a huge sports fan. My favorite Wisconsin teams are the Badgers, the Packers, and the Brewers. I love to paddle…either my kayak or my SUP (paddleboard.) My dog, Gracie, rides the paddleboard with me and loves to jump off to swim.
I love to travel and have helped build homes with Habitat for Humanity in Thailand and Brazil. I have also traveled to Scotland and Ghana to help out in schools there. I have also been a board member of the Hartland Area Food Pantry for 14 years and am impressed with how generous and kind our community is to those less fortunate.
Helping to establish our school forest program with Mrs. Plank, Mrs. Moore, and Mrs. Marschelak has been an awesome experience. We are very excited to be part of a larger team now that is working on creating an environmental education plan for our district. This plan will enable us to let our students “get out and grow!”
I love watching movies, especially if I have read the book first. My love of movies is the reason that I use a summer blockbuster as my classroom theme every year.

2nd Grade Teacher Hartland North Elementary Work Phone: (262) 369-6710
Biography

What I love about teaching is the look on a child’s face when he or she is so proud of a new achievement.

Biography:
Welcome! My name is Bridgett Chartier. I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a Master’s degree in Professional Development from Alverno College. I was fortunate to begin my teaching career as a student teacher in a 1st grade classroom at Hartland North. After that, I was hired as a 2nd grade teacher and have loved teaching 2nd graders since 2006! I find so much enjoyment in this grade level because of children’s growing independence at this age and their continual curiosity.

I grew up in Pewaukee, Wisconsin and now live near Milwaukee. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter, and our dog. We love taking hikes and going to our family cottage near Minocqua, WI. I also enjoy reading, cooking and baking, and decorating our house. The small things in life tend to make me happy!

Biography

I spend every Tuesday, Thursday, and every other Friday all day teaching half the 3rd and 4th grade classes ,as well as, the entire 5th grade at Hartland South. My motto to all my classes there is to hit the gym running! We only have 30 minutes and we want to use to every minute moving around! Every square of the gym is constantly in use with a variety of challenges for agility, speed, strength, balance, hand/eye coordination, and overall fitness! I expect all kids to be accepted no matter what their physical abilities and/or limitations and to participate fully in all of our activities.

At NSMS I want students to embrace their health and wellbeing and take it with them all throughout their life!  To accomplish this, we expose students to life long activities… Archery, Badminton, Inline Skating, Pickle Ball, Ultimate Frisbee, and more.  Full participation is expected! We even find things do for our injured students so they can feel a connection to their peers and the activity! This year I am focusing on 6th grade only on Monday, Wednesday, and “A” week Friday’s.

Matthew Crowe

6th Grade Social Studies North Shore Middle School Work Phone: (262) 369-6767
Biography

What I love about teaching is guiding my students through powerful pieces of literature and seeing them fall in love with reading for perhaps the first time.  And of course, I love helping my students to feel comfortable and confident to be themselves even through the sometimes trying times of middle school.

My name is Matt Crowe.  I have been a teacher for nine years, and it’s my pleasure to be starting my third year of teaching Comm. Arts here at North Shore Middle School.

This year in Comm. Arts your child will be actively involved in Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop as part of our district’s literacy initiative.  This method of delivery is based on the work of Lucy Calkins and the Columbia University Teacher’s College.

The workshop model stresses a rigorous framework for reading and writing growth, through whole class mini-lessons that focus students on honing and perfecting specific skills and strategies, through daily teacher-student conferences, and through collaborative peer work.  The program emphasizes genuine reading and writing pursuits that will not only help students’ achievement but also create a culture of lifelong readers and writers.  After having the opportunity to attend a Teacher’s College training this summer, I have seen the incredible potential that this instructional method will mean for our kids.

I encourage you to take an active part in your child’s growth as well.  Homework completion and independent reading and writing at home is expected.  Homework will be communicated using the grade level calendar on our website.  Students will be expected to complete a reading log and have parents sign it every two weeks.  Your help with this is greatly appreciated!
